Week #99 – Enjoy Life

Sauna of the South

Baby Rattler

Boiled Peanuts

Brenan’s on fire!

Hey Mom, it sounds like things are gonna work out after all, that is exciting. I’m not worried about a room. Things will work out. I was able to fast this week. It is amazing to me how powerful prayer and fasting is. The future is as bright as our faith, I know that is true.

This week was awesome, we went all over our area seeing referrals and less actives. We came across a baby rattler which was cool. We went on exchanges and we also had a zone conference. It was my last one and it was the best. I bore my final testimony, it was a great feeling to get to this point in my mission, I have learned to enjoy life even when things may be hard, no matter what we are going through we can have happiness and joy.

One my favorite scriptures is in Moroni 7 it says, “40 And again, my beloved brethren, I would speak unto you concerning hope. How is it that ye can attain unto faith, save ye shall have hope?

41 And what is it that ye shall hope for? Behold I say unto you that ye shall have hope through the atonement of Christ and the power of his resurrection, to be raised unto life eternal, and this because of your faith in him according to the promise.

42 Wherefore, if a man have faith he must needs have hope; for without faith there cannot be any hope.

43 And again, behold I say unto you that he cannot have faith and hope, save he shall be meek, and lowly of heart.”

Let us have hope and faith in our life, hoping and having faith in the Atonement of Christ our Lord.

I hope and pray that all of us can have fun in life enjoy it, and live life like everyday is our last, because one day it certainty will be.

Brookhaven and Redstar is awesome, what a great place to end my mission. DOMINATE

Sincerely, Elder Brenan Corbin

Ps. we had like 3 or 4 heat indexes this week. Which means it was above 100 degrees with 100% humidity. #sweetinbullets

Week #98 – A Piece of Pie

Hey Mom, we had another great week! Life is great! Isn’t it just wonderful when we look at those things that truly matter most and let those silly little things go away. We truly are so blessed. Sometimes we get down for no reason, Satan whispers in our ears that we should be better already or that we should have been something different and tries to get us discouraged. There is no reason for us to get down. We just remember who we are, and whom we have trusted and go forward in FAITH!

I love it, Life is so much more enjoyable when we love the savior and try to please him. This week went by pretty quick, so funny/kool/cheesy thing we did as missionaries.

So Elder Mcdougal and I have been praying for a sign from Heavenly Father to see what we should do in this area. WE prayed to know who we should work with and who might have a referral or a pmf or something, Brookhaven hasn’t been worked hard in a good while!

So we prayed for somebody to give us a piece of pie or a pie. haha yup we did. So finally in the fourth week, a member, our relief society president in Brookhaven, made us a pie for desert, and we told her about the small miracle that was done. and guess what? Sure enough they have a legit referral for us, so we are going to begin teaching that family they gave us! Could this be the family we have been praying for. I think it might be. It is amazing to see the miracles of the Lord.

God is a God of miracles in our day, so incredible, so let us according to our faith have fun! LET US ENJOY LIFE! Life in and of itself is a miracle thanks to the Atonement of Jesus Christ. He makes everything joyful and his love is so unfailing. What a blessing it is to be alive. Let us be happy, give some meaningful time to the Savior and then go out there and take life on!

Whether you are praying for pie, or for health or for someone you love, let it be known unto everyone that, “without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Hebrews 11:6

I love each and everyone of you. Let us have a newness of life and change our lives by believing, having faith and trusting for a better world, DOING those things that will please him. I know that he will reward us. Why, because we have the mind of Christ.

See 1 Corinthians 2 :9-16

I love yall, DOMINATION BABY WOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Week #97 – “getchu some homies”

Hey Mom, it sounds like there are a lot of wonderful things happening! I am doing great life is going good dont worry! The work is picking up, we are hoping to get more people into our teaching pool. It will be some hard work but it will be worth it, we have the faith! The Lord has been blessing us so much. Jeremy is married!!! DANG! I saw all the pictures you sent thanks those were good to see! This last week was awesome! On Wednesday we had ZTM in Clinton and it was pretty fun. It was good to see other missionaries and to be spiritually uplifted. I got to see Milton, he was an old investigator of mine, he took us to lunch. It twas a good experience. We are still working with our next door neighbors and doing service with them. It has been fun. There are a bunch of wonderful people here in the south and it is our job to bring them the restored gospel. I am so thankful I have the gospel in my life.

WE did alot of service this week. It was hard work. We cut some trees down with a saw and helped our ward mission leader Bro. Applewhite do some farming stuff. It was interesting running around on the farm with cows. I do not like farm animals…. x). We went into Bro Applewhites’ mechanic shop on in his land, and as he was getting everything ready. We stumbled across some old miller lights. We lifted them up and started laughing. HE said it was his sons evidence for a court case. (his son is highway patrolmen) and he had never used it so it just sat there. Elder Mcdougal and I are not so sure. But we are sure it wasn’t him. haha. it was a funny coincidence, so as elders should, we played some miller light baseball, and batted at all the bear cans. It was pretty fun, it was a rednecks paradise, it was raining miller. WE also found a little bird nest on the ground it was weird but it was cool to see it. Later that day we visited some members to get to know some people in redstar, we come across a member who has a Caterpillar farm. Yes, you heard correct.

He has a farm with these special kind of trees that lure in a moth, that lays its eggs on the leaves and then after a little bit some caterpillars hatch and they get into these big green caterpillars. They spit green juice that is supposed to inflict massive damage on the victim. It causes such tremendous swelling that even a crocodile that was blind cant see. Amazing. It spits the green saliva like green eggs and ham, all over the birds face to get the bird to let go of it. So we were messing with them and thankfully none of that green juice got on us, otherwise we would have got out of there like the in-
vestigators in the south. (but thankfully we were thuggin preaching the gospel in dees screets so the lord protected us from the sting juice). Later, as we were biking along in the rain, we came across a guy that we think might be gay, but he comes up to us and was talking about how he is a rapper and how he knows jesus and stuff and how he likes us bcus we know Jesus. He be like “I know jesus man, and I have seen visions and I am gonna rap with such precision, and I am a machine, you can call me mr. guillotine, I’m mean, you hear me coffee bean.” It is pretty hilarous to come into contact with him. Pretty interesting guy. (my impersonation isnt as good but i did my best.)

Then on Wednesday night, we played some ball with the young men. It was fun, the new slang was “getchu sum homes” as we drained three’s on the young men. then yesterday the varners stopped by which was way cool. They had went on a vacation to the coast and on the way back they visited with us. It was great to see them. Farmerville was a great place and I love the people there. I am excited to continue to serve here in Brookhaven it is a great place and we are still striving to find that golden family who we know is out here.

i hope all goes well and make sure that you all say your prayers

Week #96 – Keep Going

Hey Mom, ¬†exciting news with Amanda and James. Welcome to the South, it will be a really cool experience, you will learn to accept the humidity down here. It’s getting pretty warm, and then it will rain, and then it will get even hotter. haha. Got to love it. That is a long drive for James in the uhaul. haha. this past week we did not really find to many new investigators, we are working and following up a lot with our current investigators. Helping them read and pray and find out for themselves. it really is a amazing work we do. this past week we have been in contact with our next door neighbor who teaches MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) in his back yard. We are slowly going to try to teach him. President Olson said it was okay for us to train with him when it was private class during an appropriate time. So it has been way fun. We have been doing kick boxing and I love it. MMA is way tight, the lord knows us better than he knows ourselves. It has been good, i feel like we can do some good missionary work.

Haha, i’m gonna miss another Corbin family reunion in early july!~!!! It comes with the missionary sacrifice, it makes things worth it. This Sunday was stake conference. So we went to Jackson with our Branch President in Brookhaven. There were some old members from one of my areas, Pearl Ms, it was good to see all of them. I don’t know if I have explained our set up here in Brookhaven. Brookhaven is a branch, and there is a ward in Red Star, that is basically run by a huge family. That is what most of the branches are down here in anyways huge families. We only have 1000 miles a month and our area is huge so we have been biking like crazy! I enjoy it because people see us more.

I love how the Lord can teach us in so many ways. The gospel can be applied to anything and you can relate anything to the gospel. All those in life who have been successful have had a barrier or an obstacle they have had to overcome. They have had to go through the road of pain and suffering to become a success. I love what Lehi teaches in 2 Nephi 2, it is probably my new favorite chapter in the Book of Mormon. It has all sorts of good gems in it. Lehi teaches us that there must needs be an opposition in all things in order for us to grow. If things were always easy, how would we know what hard is? Or how would we know it was easy if we have never experienced difficulty?

In all things in life, there are going to be times that are more difficult than others, and a real mans character is not judged by what he does when he is successful, but about what a real man does when his back is against the wall. When things get hard and we shed tears of sorrow, feel pain, or have mental or emotional problems we are dealing with, it is those times that make us who we are! WE cant give up right when everything matters the most! Right when things get difficult, we have to keep going and trust and have faith that all will work out for the best! One of my favorite motivational speakers is, Eric Thomas. He says that we should not “cry to quit, but cry to keep going”, if we are already hurt and in pain, don’t quit get a reward for it. All things in life that are worth fighting for and worth achieving are hard, and that is what creates the prize.

Salvation was never easy, and it is not a cheap experience, and it will be hard. But don’t throw in the towel right when it is time to go all out, and achieve and live your dreams. The lord is there and he will help you in your trials. I have felt and still feel the enabling power of the atonement in my life. As I look back on the mission and my life I know that it is absolutely by the grace of my Father in Heaven that I am here today, and that means that I have a work to preform. We owe it to our Heavenly Father and our Savior Jesus Christ to be the best that we can be in EVERY aspect of our life! It will be hard and we will suffer and pay the price but we will become like them! Hebrews 5:8

In those experiences in life we are brought closer to our Savior. It is those experiences in life that we feel that we are down and out, that we need to stand up and fight back. Don’t be a volunteer victim like everybody else. I am so thankful for the opportunity we have to learn, to grow, to experience hard times so we can learn to cherish the good. I am thankful when I think of my Savior Jesus Christ and what he went through for me. He loves each and everyone of you, and I do to!

With the Savior in mind, let us move forward in life, forgetting those things in the past that might be holding us back and create a bright future. It is in the getting past the hard days so we can experience the best days of our lives. I testify that we can do anything through the Atonement of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, I testify that the Book of Mormon is his revealed gospel in this the latter days, and I testify that Joseph Smith is a prophet of God, more joy and happiness awaits us as we live the gospel day by day, through thick and thin, as we strive to be our best selves.

In the sacred name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Week #95 – Make the Days Count

New District in Brookhaven, MS

New Companion Elder McDougal in Brookhaven, MS

Old District in Farmerville, MS

Hey Mom! This last week has been awesome. I got transfered to Brookhaven Ms, to white wash with Elder McDougal. He is a good kid. We are going to be working really hard. He has been out about a year and is from Safford AZ.

This past week we did a lot of tracting to get this place rolling! We have found a lot of solid investigators, and we are excited to see where it goes. We have two church buildings we are working with. Red Star Ward and Brookhaven Branch. it is funny because it is basically a giant family out here. The Britt family basically runs this entire place, the bishop’s grand father basically started the building in Red Star.

It is a good ole town, about 12,000 i would guess. One day this past week we biked close to 30 miles. it was rough but it was worth it. I love biking around, everyone waves and honks their horn at us, it’s legit. Right now, they say. haha. Like always, there are tons of dogs that chase us and we always yell “NOT TODAY”!!!!! as we bike as fast as we can bye. It’s hilarious. they chase us for at least a block, we will get a video next time don’t worry. the love of missionary work is real.

Exciting news with Amanda and James, moving to the Tennessee. That will be interesting. I don’t know if it is as hot there as it is here. But its gonna be nice and humid. Welcome to the sauna of the world. haha. I hope that it all works out. Hopefully everything continues to work out. Elder McDougal and I are really working hard to find a family, and if we don’t at least several people to entire into the waters of baptism. I love this gospel, it is so true, I have seen doors open for us as we have been working hard and being obedient. President Olson planned with us on Saturday night. It was way cool. Then he came to church with us the next day. He is an inspiring man and I know the spirit of the Lord is with him. I love the mission, I am so glad I got called to serve here in the Mississippi Jackson Mission, it is the best mission on earth. I have met so many wonderful people and I love the south. It took me a while but I really do enjoy it. There are a lot of hard headed people but those few people we do meet makes it all worth it.

yesterday we tracted into this old guy named Keith. he is pretty cool, he is a “backslide baptist” we helped him for an hour or so building an old trailer. It was pretty rednecked engineered. It was fun, he is missing his two bottom teeth, like everyone in the south haha.

I cannot believe it is almost June, crazy how time flies! So awesome. It is getting hotter down here as the days go by. We had a fun memorial day yesterday so many people were bbqing. Earlier in the week, I think it might have been our first day, we tracted into a person named Eugene, it was funny because he thought he knew the scriptures like everyone down here, and he was making no sense, and I was trying so hard not to laugh and look at elder Mcdougal, I have been in so many situations where people try to quote stuff to us and they end up making no sense and talking in circles and the funny person that I am I can’t help myself. i feel so sorry for some of these people because the pastors lead them so far astray and because of pride they don’t listen to us. We showed Eugene love but at the end I just kindly dominated him with the scripts. then we left.

I always joke with Elder Mcdougal saying let’s go back and he just laughs because it was a waste of time. our time truly is precious and we have to spend as much of it as we can finding those who will receive us and recognize us as the Lord’s servants.

Anyways I can not wait to see all the wonderful miracles the lord is working here. I have seen tender mercies of the Lord letting us find people here who seem ready. We also tracted into this potential who didn’t really want to talk to us because she was so busy, but we kept following up and we came in and talked to her. her name is Jeneva, and her husband Jeff is in the hospital and will most likely be coming back in a wheelchair. So she has been stressed out, and when we offered her service to help get her house ready for his return, she started crying, and said that is was an answer to her prayers. So tomorrow we are going to go help and hopefully get to know her better.

I love this gospel and the opportunity i have to serve. We have an opportunity in life to make the days count. If we do our best and realize that nothing in our life is promised. We could die at any moment. Most of us live life like we have a thousand years to live and WE DON’T! WE have to do something TODAY!

Choose this day whom ye will serve, and I promise that you will look back on your life and it will be full of more love and joy than you have ever experienced.

I miss and love each and everyone of you! Don’t try to change the past, you can’t change it, the bible says that when you here my voice harden not your heart, you have to chase your dreams, you might have messed up in high school, or college or whatever, your job, your relationship, but it is never to late to change!!!! YOU CAN CHANGE AND BE YOUR BEST!!!

Christ descended below them all, art thou greater than he?

The answer is no, we are not, he is there and he has reminded us that he has engraven us upon his palms, he will not forsake us.
