Week #85 – Find Real Joy

Clean up after floods in Farmerville branch. River overflowed!

Hey Mom, I am doing great, how can I complain about life when we have a wonderful savior Jesus Christ who loves me beyond comprehension? I do not think we can have anything to complain about. I am ecstatic that you saw Wyatt and Travis, that is awesome, I hope they are just on fire with life! I would love to live with them when I get back, that would so LEGIT. I just cant believe how awesome that would be. Sometimes we make plans, and God laughs. He has a sense of humor! We just need to have the mentality: Come what may, and love it!

Easter was awesome, we had a fast and testimony meeting. It was kind of weird because it did not feel like Easter fasting. But it was very spiritual and I am so thankful for the wonderful testimonies that were given! After church we took one of our recent converts in the branch with us to give several less-actives some candy and the sacrament. It was a great experience for all of us. Then later we went tracting and later we found this HUGE HOUSE. IT WAS HUGE I CANT BELIEVE HOW BIG IT WAS. As we drove by we were like we are knocking on that door, haha. So as we are walking up the huge driveway a ford truck is coming down. He roles down his window and talks to us for a short second. We gave him a hallelujah card and invited him to watch the two minute video.

The whole time I was thinking about the question Christ proposed, “What shall it profit a man if he should gain the whole world and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”

I was going to tell him if he wants to find real joy he needs to take seriously what we teach as missionaries. Later that evening we were talking to the Varners about it, we ate at there house for dinner, it was great. They told us that it was the CEO of Century Link. So we are going back there, and maybe we can teach him, I don’t know people like that are busy, so hopefully we can wake him up to reality. Haha

I can not believe March is gone! Haha lets goooo! Time is flying, I also can not believe that I get to skype home here soon! Wow, crazy! Life in the mission field is great. I wish we could all develop a deeper love for the savior and get our priorities straight… oh wait uhmm, WE CAN! YEHAW!

We need to develop a deep and abiding love for the savior! We do that by prayer, fasting, scripture study, and keeping his commandments.

It will bring true happiness into our life. We need to remember that life, is very, very fragile. Sometimes we think that nothing bad will happen, but each and everyday not only do new excitements await us, but so do problems. Who knows hopefully no tragedy will attend your life anytime soon, But i can testify that it will come, and how you act to that situation all depends on how you prepare for such events. You prepare by following the savior and finding new life in him.

May we all dream big, and think big, but start small, and change our lives and our lives will become a fountain of achievement, and we will look back on our lives and be able to say, I GAVE IT MY ALL, and there was not one more thing I could have done! That my friends is true joy, then may we all enter into the rest of Savior Jesus Christ.

May the Lord bless each and everyone of you this week.

“The object of prayer is not to change the will of God but to secure for ourselves and for others blessings that God is already willing to grant but that are made conditional on our asking for them. Blessings require some work or effort on our part before we can obtain them. Prayer is a form of work and is an appointed means for obtaining the highest of all blessings.”

Love for each and everyone one of you,

Week #84 – Remember Him

That is awesome, it is crazy that Grant is getting married! What a blessing! Congrats to him.

This week has been good, we had a Zone Training Meeting that was really good. I learned a lot. This week we will be having a zone conference. I am also excited for Easter and for General Conference. As you know, we need to think of some questions we want answered so we can receive personal revelation for our lives. We need to ponder deeply on the atonement of Jesus Christ, and remember him. We can indeed feel joy, receive peace, and find purpose through him.

“For what we love, determines what we seek, what we seek, determines what we think, and do, and what we think and do, determines who we are, and who we will become. No God does not need us to love him, but oh how much we need to love God.” -Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf

I know the Savior lives, we need to trust in Him, and love him. Did not his life touch us more deeply than this? May we ask ourselves this question, for we do not know what it will be like on judgement day, but God might ask us the same question that Christ asked peter,

“Did you love me?”

Let us love our Heavenly Father through service to him!

Week #83 Continued…

Hey Mom, we were able to get to library and email. WE have been doing service with some members and investigators this week. We actually found a new investigator sand bagging, so we will be eating dinner with them tonight and will be visiting with them in their home. SO good things are happening. We have been helping a wonderful family. I love them they do so much for us. I felt so bad when I saw the damage that had been done on their home. It is definitely not an easy trial. I hope they can continue to have a good attitude because their attitude has been fantastic.

I want to keep it simple this week, because of how crazy it has been.

To keep it simple, I want to share a two great scriptures that I really have been trying to apply in my life and that I enjoy thinking about.

First one: Alma 37:6

“Now ye may suppose that this is foolishness in me; but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise”

the Second: The Law of the Harvest

“Therefore, prepare ye the way of the Lord, for the time is at hand that all men shall reap a reward of their works, according to that which they have been—if they have been righteous they shall reap the salvation of their souls, according to the power and deliverance of Jesus Christ; and if they have been evil they shall reap the damnation of their souls, according to the power and captivation of the devil”

If remember that we will reap in this life what we sow, then I believe we will be a lot more effective because we will work harder. It is a law that is irrevocably decreed in heaven, that if we sow hard work, we will reap hard work. Plan and simple. TO go along with that, it is by small and simple steps and changes that we become more Christlike, or succeed in a fortune 500 company. IF you cant do the dishes right, how can you expect to run a business?

We must realize that if we can do the small things, consistently, then we will have the character to do the big things, and if we can do the big things then we will receive our reward.

If there is anything I learn on my mission it will be that/

Small and Simple Means make the difference between mediocre and greatness; and if we sow small means of hard work we will reap the benefits of that hard work.

I know this is true, I have experienced it, and I am experiencing it day by day. It is a constant striving to become what the lord wants us to become. It is not easy, but it is worth it. We must fight each day, better today than yesterday, better now than I was 10 seconds ago, always improving that is the task of life, until we become perfected. So Fight on, and put your shoulder to the wheel in all you do, for I know that we will reap what we sow.

In the name of Jesus Christ Amen.

Ps. Never give up, never give in, that is how winners win.

Love you!

Week #83 Louisiana Floods

A Text from Louisiana-March 11, 2016; Friday @ 12:52pm-

Hey Mother! Love you – we are okay, we are safe in Farmerville from the floods.

Another text-March 17, 2016; Thursday @ 7:12am-

This is Lori Varner from Farmerville Branch. I wanted to let you know how much help Elder Corbin and his companion have been to us the past 3 days. Our home flooded during the 2 feet+ of rain our area got last week. The Lake that is about 1/4 mile from our house rose quickly in the run off and for 4 days 3 feet of lake water stood in our home. Our precious Elders have worked tirelessly the past 2 1/2 days helping us clean out and haul off everything from saturated carpet to wet dry wall and insulation to the horrible mess created when the water turned over our freezer that thawed and spoiled. they have been there for us constantly when others went back to work, and I am eternally grateful for them. Thank you for raising such a Christlike son!

Side note: I have yet to receive my Monday morning email from Brenan. On Monday he sent a brief email-

Hey mom so sorry!!! I’ll email tomorrow, we have to end pday early to day because of an appointment and we didn’t even know the library was open today because of the floods. I’m safe, all if okay and there is no harm, life is great and THE LORD IS AMAZING!!!

LOVE Elder Brenan Corbin

Love my Brenan!!!!

Week #82 Life is Great

Transferred Comp last week

Hey Mom! Happy Birthday! I love you so much! I am loving the mission it is going fast! I only have 5 months left what ! crazy. My companion is awesome, I love him, we get along great and we are working hard! I can’t believe that Grant is getting married wow, everyone is growing up! Change is definitely hard sometimes but that is okay. I hope that we will all be able to do what the lord wants! I will keep this email short this week, but life is great, and change is great, if it was not for change we could never grow.

When we receive trials and change it is simply the Lord telling us he is ready for us to grow again. It is not because we are doing anything wrong it is because we are doing something right. that is something amazing to think about!

Mom I love you I hope yall have a great week. As our investigators progress I will let you know who they are and what is going on with them. It will be fun to see everyone when they come down this next week! Love you MOM, have fun stay healthy and love the Lord! GOD SPEED!
