Week #80 To No Avail

Brandi Majeska got Baptized!!!

Hey Mom! I am in Farmerville still!! My new companion is Elder Gutierrez, he is legit! It is going to be great. Wow, there was a tornado! I think we will be alright, we are pretty far north compared to everyone else. I did not get transferred. This week will be a 7 week transfer to accommodate the MTC change for how long missionaries stay in the MTC. So we have added another week to our transfer.

This last Sunday, Brandi Majeska got baptized wooo!!! It was so awesome, during the confirmation the spirit was so strong as her husband struggled to speak the words, “receive the holy ghost”. Throughout that time I was fighting to hold back tears but it was to no avail. It was such an amazing experience. I love how much Love the Lord gives to all those who trust in him. Imagine how much suffering he went through, that we might be forgiven and receive such an amazing gift!

I only have 4 transfers left? It does not make any sense in my mind! Time truly has flown and I understand how precious this time we have to serve the Lord. I have been working hard in this area and have been giving everything I am to serve with all my heart, might, mind and strength. It has been such a blessing. The Spirit is real. I have felt and noticed the difference between missionaries and myself, when we have the spirit and when we don’t.

The Spirit enlightens our minds and helps us to become who the Lord wants us to become. We all were born with the light of Christ. It is the knowledge to know what is right and wrong. But as we make good choices our light will increase, and consequently if we make wrong ones long enough our light will dim and cease to exist. Can we ever become perfected on our own? Do we ever think that it is possible for us to be lifted to a higher state of being without outside help?

How could we? A man cannot lift himself up by his bootstraps.
Thankfully, the Lord Jesus Christ suffered for us that we could learn and progress.
“Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered”, (hebrews 5:8) through his diligence we can inturn be lifted up above our own capacity.
But what is required of us? Why do we need the Holy Ghost?

We must act as did Christ, “And I, John, saw that he received not of the fulness at the first, but received grace for grace; And he received not of the fulness at first, but continued from grace to grace, until he received a fulness.” (D&C 93:12-13) Because of the Atonement we are allowed mistakes and errors, Christ wasnt allowed error, there was no room for imperfection. I am thankful for his example, because of what he did, “-being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;”(hebrews 5:9).

But how do we become better from Christ’s atonement?
A man can only become glorified to a certain point because of his imperfection, at what point does his growth stop? How perfect can someone become being unfavorably equipped with only the Light of Christ?

Graciously God has given a gift to all those who believe in his son, and follow him. This gift is received through the ordinance of baptism by water, which brings about the baptism of fire, “the gift of the Holy Ghost.” We need the Holy Ghost that so we can be endowed with christlike attributes as we strive to become perfected. The Holy Ghost is what permanently changes our character and makes us into something greater than what we could ever become without it. It is through the Gifts the Spirit that we become like our Father in Heaven. Only through effort and determination those who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints can be endowed through God’s grace and become perfected through those gifts.

“The grace that flows from the Savior’s atoning sacrifice opens the gate to the divine road, the gifts are the vehicle and godhood is the destination. By the grace of God, the gifts come, and with the acquisition of the gifts, godhood emerges.” (Tad R. Callister, The Infinite Atonement, 277).

This is why we need the Holy Ghost. Brothers and Sisters, this is the church of Jesus Christ. Let us take courage to seek out these gifts and acquire them. Who shall deny the gifts of the spirit? All those who do not pray and ask for them. Ask Heavenly Father to bless you with gifts from the spirit. He is at the head. He leads President Thomas S. Monson by inspired revelation. He lives he loves you, he has provided a way for you to learn of him, and to become like him. It is through the impressions of his holy spirit.

If you pray and strive to establish immutable truths in your life, you will find his voice and it will lead you to this gospel, for it is his gospel, and if
ye say that this is not his gospel, judge ye, for he will show unto you at the last day with great power that it is his gospel. Ye will hear a voice saying behind thee, “this is the way, walk ye in it.”(isaiah)

I testify that by the power of the Holy Ghost you can know that these things are true! Exercise faith, test our message, read the Book of Mormon, there is nothing to lose. I fear that we get distracted by the many voices Satan puts into the world, enticing us to focus on things that are not important. Let us focus on things that are ‘essential’ and there is but few. I testify that God loves when we do what is right and is pleased. He will bless us beyond our capacity to receive. Search, ponder and pray, find out for yourself it will be worth it, your eternal happiness is at stake. In the name of Jesus Christ amen!
